Artist Statement

“On the path of Love we are neither masters nor the owners of our lives. We are only a brush in the hand of the Master Painter.”
Maulaana Room Rumi
(Rahmatul Laahi ‘Alaieh).

My name is Seema S Ahmad. In few words I am big time  contemplate r, self-taught artist, designer, student of life, art appreciator, mother, photographer, writer, part time philosopher, and full time dreamer. A person with a heart of a poet, a mind of an achiever, and a spirit of a true believer.
I am passionate about creativeness writing reading and living my God [Allaah Almighty] conscious life. My cultural diverse background has allowed me to explore artistic themes ranging from realistic watercolor to calligraphy and designs. I am comfortable working in oil, pastel, watercolor, and various drawing media including computer art. Throughout the years I have been engaging in art in its comprehensive sense, from painting to graphic design and illustration, to calligraphy, using different styles, techniques, and materials. I never found it important to label myself by a certain genre, style or school. I believe doing so could become a self-imposed limitation on creativity, which I believe should never be restrained.

Although I have gone through art training at school, college and university, much of what I know of traditional art practices is self taught. Color is the essence of my work; it is what interests and challenges me the most.

I also continually search for the extra quality that comes from within in order to make the painting my own. I love all realms of the art world, including writing, photography and poetry, but painting is my true love. I take great pride in my work, which provides the world the rare opportunity to view life "through my eyes"; a point of view I'm sure you'll find both unique and compelling.
I want those who see my art to experience what I feel, and to acknowledge my respect, awe, and love for creation and Creator.

Philosophy behind my Artwork

“Everything that is made beautiful, fair, and lovely is made for the eye of the one who sees”
  -Rumi

My goal is to bring his cultural heritage to speak across time and cultural borders, breaking all barriers-
Eastern philosophies, spirituality, historical places, cultural heritage, diversity of the world always have held great fascination for me. I am an advocate and great supporter of wondrous cultures beautiful in every way. Which I feel must be preserved, cherished, protected and encourage to succeed. Particularly I have been interested in Turkey Indo-Pak, Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, Morocco and the Gulf states. Even after living in the Western world for decades I have not been able to erase them from my memories. In other words my mind set still leans toward great cultures of the past and present. Visualizing and praying for a world of highly advanced Eastern and Western civilization coexisting peacefully

My work weaves a visual poetry of cultural wonders using hope for thread. Hopefully these paintings will speak to all people from all cultures and backgrounds.  Where one can see beauty through their daily existence despite the chaos, corruption, distortion, and restlessness prevailing in today’s world.
It will hopefully help the souls to see the dazzling light of their very own existence. To see the light we need to tear ourselves away from the sleek, soulless modern monotonous everyday life, and get in tune with the Creator of the universe.

“I’d like to consider myself, along with writers, visionaries, historians, scholars designer’s poets and architects, a savior and a guardian of human heritage and preserver of our beautiful rich heritage visual memory.”

In  the famous book a collection of poems and stories Gulistaan or 'The Rose Garden', written by the eminent classic Persian poet, Shaiekh Saa’di
[Rahmatullahi alaieh]

 He quotes...

"Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.
If one member is afflicted with pain,
Other members uneasy will remain.
If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you cannot retain."

These beautiful  verses are carved to grace the entrance to the Hall of Nations of the UN building in New York with its simple but impressive few lines it evokes call for breaking all barriers and indifferences..

“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”
-Rumi

An image is worth 1000 words and should speak itself. There is an artist waiting inside everyone, wanting to be unraveled discovered with open mind. For me art is a means of rumination. Being involved in experimenting with lines and color’s, I am able to move away from worldly issues and concentrate on that blank page which has no history and no issues to resolve.
I consider a work to be a success if it invokes and stimulates our emotion, incites our soul, and nourishes our intellect. Beauty in a painting is static, symbolizing a moment in life lengthened to infinity. I work intuitively, and my goal is impression rather than precision. My desire for expression is satisfied when the ideas and emotions flow like the pigments mixed with water on paper gathering color, light, and form. I am an artist who uses both traditional media ranging from oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, mixed media and now computers to produce original fine art. However, watercolor is my first love and my favorite medium; I love its unpredictability, its subtlety, and the challenges it has to offer.

To me color is a medium through which I expresses emotion felt in the heart. The images I offers the viewer, stippled with vintages, memories symbols lettering's strike a chord universally. For me the value of life is in the human experience when the heart and mind turn harmoniously towards the Absolute. Where words fail, images calligraphy provides a remedy. Speaks to my soul and convey a universal message of  Divine Creator who has created all this not in vain…..

I want those who see my work to experience what I feel and to acknowledge my respect, awe, and love for creation and the Creator.
I work with acrylic paints, pen, chalk, pencil, photography, my scanned art work mixed media and handmade papers to create rich, layered, art. I work on canvas, panels, papers napkins scrap paper anything that have at the creative moment
I am always experimenting with different mediums to add layers and texture to my work. Or sometimes I just like to do something different.
